Life Experiences:
After being in the accounting field for years, Rick started studying the financial planning field and then joined the practice his friend had started. As a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, he also belongs to the Personal Financial Planning Division of the AICPA and has been accredited as a Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) through the AICPA. He was a contributing editor to the Financial Planning Section of the Journal of Accountancy and was the personal finance columnist for a number of years to TODAY, the official publication of the Associated Funeral Directors Association. Rick taught the Personal Finance and Investments course for a number of years at a local university and was a co-author of the book The Deferred Compensation Plan.
As a frequent speaker and author on the subject of personal finance, he truly enjoys educating the public.
Rick is also a member of NAPFA, a professional association of fee-only financial advisors. |

Life Experiences:
Sandy Stuart is our senior investment advisor. The son of a career Army officer, Sandy lived the nomadic life of an Army brat. After graduation from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY, Sandy served twenty years in the Army, with overseas assignments that included Germany and two combat tours in Vietnam.
While in the Army, Sandy's specialties were computer systems and the Field Artillery. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1981 with his last assignment being stationed at the Pentagon.
After moving back to Lynchburg, Sandy earned an MBA from Lynchburg College and passed the CPA exam.
Upon joining the firm in 1991, Sandy established the firm's investment philosophy of designing and managing portfolios.
Sandy and Linda celebrated their forty-fifth wedding anniversary in June 2006. They have two children and seven grandchildren. Besides investing, Sandy's primary interests are serving in the leadership of Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church, watching college football, ballroom dancing and hiking with his wife. |

Life Experiences:
Serving in the US Peace Corps in South Korea, Brian traveled extensively through Southeast Asia and taught English in a foreign language school in Japan. Respect for the elderly was ingrained in him throughout his time in Asia.
From 1984 to 1995 he was a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator acquainting him with aging issues including gerontology, geriatrics, Medicare, Medicaid, the psychology of aging and the aging process.
From 1995 to 1999 he practiced comprehensive financial planning and in 2000 merged with Sandy and Rick to become Huff, Stuart & Carlton.
Brian's life experiences, copious education and professional involvement give him a unique blend of attributes that make him an expert on aging and financial issues. |

Joel joined Huff, Stuart & Carlton in June of 2005 as an Investment Manager. His duties include assisting with the daily portfolio Management and Investment services. Joel graduated with a B.S. from Liberty University in 1997. Joel has earned the Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®) professional designation, awarded by the Center for Fiduciary Studies, which is associated with the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Executive Education.
Joel met his wife Melissa in Tucson, Arizona and they decided to make Central VA their home. Joel & Melissa have two young boys, Aiden & Jesse. Joel enjoys spending time with family and being involved in his local church.

Sharon serves as our Client Service Manager, ensuring client needs are
handled properly through our office. She is our liaison with Fidelity Investments and is usually the first point of contact when you call.
Sharon had over 28 years of banking experience, most of it with Central Fidelity Bank (CFB), then Wachovia. While at CFB,
Sharon took numerous computer and management courses, becoming the Facilities Office Manager for the western region of Virginia.
Sharon joined Huff, Stuart & Carlton in 1999 where her prior experience has been a tremendous asset to the firm.
Sharon has been married to Ron Wrenn for 32 years, and they have one son, Matthew, age 22.

Justin joined Huff, Stuart & Carlton as an Assistant Financial Advisor in August of 2008. With 5 years experience, Justin’s daily responsibilities at HSC include assisting with client analysis in the area of retirement accumulation and distribution, insurance planning, tax planning, estate planning and education planning. Justin graduated from Liberty University in 2005, where he received his Bachelor's degree in business with an emphasis in finance.
Justin is a Licensed Insurance Consultant in the state of Virginia and is currently pursuing the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation through the online program at Terry School of Business, University of Georgia.
Justin is also a member of NAPFA, a professional association of fee-only financial advisors. Justin met his wife, Joy, while attending Liberty University. The couple resides in Central Virginia and enjoys canoeing, fishing and hiking.
